Update: Andrew McLaren “One Putt” Scholarship Fund

Dear ACMNA Board Members and Community,

Please see the message below from Andrew McLaren’s wife, Carrie, and his mother, Cheri, with a heartfelt update on the positive impact of donations made in Andrew’s memory.

As you may recall, the ACMNA Board voted to contribute $500 to the “One Putt” scholarship fund, which was generously matched by the Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA). We’re proud to share how those funds—and the broader program—are now uplifting young people across Arizona.

Thank you for being a part of this meaningful initiative.

A Message from Carrie and Cheri McLaren

Dear family, friends, and colleagues of Andrew,

It has been seven months since Andrew’s passing, and we are grateful to share an update about the “One Putt” scholarship fund created in his honor.

Through a partnership with the Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA), the fund has been matched and directed to create the Build-A-Team scholarship. This initiative is supporting nine underserved high school boys’ golf teams throughout Arizona—both in urban and rural communities.

The scholarship offers more than financial aid; it helps these teams build their golf dreams. It promotes the many life values that golf instills: integrity, respect, patience, perseverance, and resilience.

Each school will receive $1,000 per year for three years to support equipment, uniforms, and lessons from PGA professionals. This funding is especially impactful as most participating schools qualify for free or reduced lunch programs.

The following high schools received the scholarship:

  • Nogales High School

  • Holbrook High School

  • Cesar Chavez High School

  • Williams High School

  • Sabino High School

  • Barry Goldwater High School

  • Rio Rico High School

  • Central High School

  • Gila Ridge High School

We’re also excited to share that a second initiative is now underway: the Andrew McLaren “Fairway to the Future” Scholarship. This new scholarship aims to help Arizona boys who have participated on their school golf teams and are pursuing studies in business, economics, finance, or history—just as Andrew did.

This merit- and need-based scholarship will be available to students attending Arizona public community colleges or one of our three state universities. It will also consider applicants’ reflections on how golf has shaped their lives and character.
